The Hague Social Distancing Dérives
As an artist I research the social interaction between people and communities and their position in society. During the lockdown, this part of my job fell away. My daughter Senna was at a precarious developmental stage (she turned 4) and was very busy trying out social skills and wanted to interact with other children, while this was not possible because of the lockdown.
I found it important to give her a chance to make her world bigger than the world at home, so I started looking for public places where people were few and where she could express her creativity and spontaneity. We went to the back alleys in city centre or places that had lost their meaning and were abandoned during the lockdown and she turned them into urban playgrounds.
The Hague Social Distancing Dérives is a celebration of public space in The Hague specifically, city centre, Stationsbuurt / Schilderswijk and Laak. It shows the variety of the built environment and is at the same time an expression of childlike fun and open-mindedness. Shot on an Iphone 6S
The Studio Settings
During rainy days I took Senna to the studio where she first got interested in photography. She delegated me to built settings and she discovered the remote control and started making self-portraits. This series is a first full-fledged collaboration between the two of us.
